Full-spectrum coverage of NASCAR drivers and teams. Weekly
NASCAR This Week is the premier paginated NASCAR page offering lively, authoritative coverage of the fast-growing and phenomenally popular sport of stock-car racing. Syndicated year-round by King Features, NASCAR This Week is powered by the crack editorial team at The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal is the only print outlet in the United States with two Henry T. McLemore Motorsports Press Award winners. Motorsports editor Godwin Kelly earned the honor in 1994, and sports columnist Ken Willis did so in 2010. The McLemore award recognizes lifetime achievement in motorsports writing.
Ken Willis
Ken Willis began covering NASCAR for The Daytona Beach News-Journal in 1982 and has been the newspaper’s lead racing columnist since 1990. From Richard Petty’s 200th win to the final days of the King’s career, through the trials and triumphs and ultimate tragedy of Dale Earnhardt’s Daytona destiny, right up to the current “Jimmie Johnson Era,” Willis has helped put it all into focus for News-Journal readers.
Along the way, his work has been recognized and honored — among those honors is the “Columnist of the Year” award from the National Motorsports Press Association.
Godwin Kelly
Godwin Kelly has been covering NASCAR for The Daytona Beach News-Journal for more than 30 years. His first racing story was a sidebar on the Cale Yarborough vs. Bobby and Donnie Allison fight after the 1979 Daytona 500.
Kelly is a two-time winner of the Russ Catlin Award (2001 and 2003). The Catlin award honors the country’s top motorsports writer, regardless of the news outlet’s size. Kelly was named the News-Journal’s motorsports editor in 1982.
