Rex Babin has been the editorial cartoonist for The Sacramento Bee since May 1999. Prior to that he held the position at The Albany Times Union, The Denver Post and the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa, Calif.

A graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in English, Babin was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in editorial cartooning in 2003. He has received numerous awards and industry recognition, including second place for the 1999 Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition (he was a finalist in 1991), 1996 Environmental Media Association Awards finalist, first place 1995, 1996 and 1998 New York State Associated Press Awards for Editorial Cartoons, 1994 Hearst Newspaper Eagle Award for Excellence, first place 1993 New York State Bar Association for Best Editorial Cartoon and 1985, 1986 and 1988 California Newspaper Publishers Association Awards for Editorial Cartoons.

His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today and Newsweek.

Babin and his wife, Kathleen, live in Sacramento.
